Designed as a comprehensive solution for organizing, editing, and exporting photos, Photoshop Lightroom 6 from Adobe is an all-inclusive, non-destructive environment suitable for all aspects of post-production. Seeing enhancements in performance and range of features, the sixth edition of Lightroom includes a pair of Merge modes, HDR and Panorama, for seamlessly compositing multiple images together to increase dynamic range or the overall field of view of photographs, respectively. Facial Recognition technology is now employed to help organize and access your photos of people quickly, and overall updates to the performance of the program accelerate processing and enhancement speeds. Rounding out the post-production workflow, this edition of Lightroom also allows you to create advanced video slideshows of your imagery and produce HTML5-compatible web galleries for sharing your work in more dynamic ways. The range of features unique to Lightroom 6 serve to complement the already impressive set of tools found in previous iterations of Lightroom, including Smart Previews for working with your photos while offline from your library, rich metadata editing capabilities, Develop presets for applying one-click effects to imagery, an Advanced Healing Brush for intelligently retouching photos, and a wide assortment of sharing and exporting options.
Lightroom 6 is compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems and is delivered here on a DVD. An internet connection is required for activating your software. Unique Features for Lightroom 6 Editing, Sharing, and Performance Enhancements. HDR Merge is a seamless means for compositing multiple exposures within a single frame in order to achieve an extended dynamic range with greater shadow and highlight detail. This tool helps to align sequentially recorded frames and average the exposure values from each to produce natural or surreal effects. Panorama Merge aids in stitching together several files, including raw images, in order to create wide field of view panoramas. This tool helps to maintain a high degree of detail and prevent unwanted distortions and gaps or overlaps between frames.
Facial Recognition is a unique solution for sourcing photos of specific people without the use of metadata, tags, or keywords. Organize and Work Efficiently Smart Previews Smart Previews permits working with your imagery without having to bring your entire image library with you. By generating smaller, more portable stand-in files of your full-size imagery, you can apply adjustments and update metadata and then automatically apply these edits to the larger originals at a later time.
Develop Presets Develop settings can be saved as presets for instantly applying your favorite looks to photos with a single click. In addition to creating your own, dozens of presets are pre-installed and thousands more are available from third parties. Other Features. Location-based photo organization. Import libraries from other software applications.
Extended video editing support. Image watermarking.
Cross-platform 64-bit support. Multiple monitor support.
Offline photo management. Batch application of development settings. Adobe Photoshop integration.
Manage and refine several images at once. DNG and raw file conversion.
Single or group metadata stamping. File renaming. Advanced search and sort. Simple or customized keywording. IPTC/EXIF/XMP metadata editing. Import and export presets.
Metadata stamp on import. Advanced Editing Capabilities Advanced Healing Brush The Advanced Healing Brush can be used to quickly fix image defects, such as dust or spots, as well as cleanly remove any unwanted objects within the photo. Updated control allows you to quickly remove oddly-shaped items, such as threads or splotches, without affecting the main subjects of an image. Upright Upright allows you to straighten tilted images with a single click by analyzing and detecting skewed horizontal and vertical lines.
This function works even when the horizon line is obscured or hidden. Radial Gradient The Radial Gradient tool enables you to create off-center vignette effects or multiple vignetted areas within a single image for easily drawing attention to specific portions of the frame. Non-Destructive Environment Lightroom is based within a non-destructive editing environment that lets you experiment and adjust imagery without the fear of accidentally altering your original files. This makes it easier to reverse any unwanted edits or save multiple versions of the same image. Advanced Black and White Conversion When converting color images to grayscale, eight color channels can be used to gain complete control over tonal representation, as well as contrast and brightness.
Other Features. Highlight and shadow recovery. White balance brush. Additional adjustment brush options.
Advanced noise reduction. Film grain simulation. Lens correction. Perspective correction and crop.
Selective editing brush. Tracking of editing adjustments. Before-and-after comparisons. Simplified tone curve tools. Hue, saturation, and luminance editing. Intelligent sharpening.
Dust-busting. Red-eye removal.
Effortless Sharing and Exporting Photo Book Creation A variety of drag-and-drop, pre-designed book templates are available for streamlined creation of printed photo publications. Each of the templates can be edited for a more personalized look, and then uploaded to printing servers directly from Lightroom. Online Sharing Integration Photos can be shared directly to social media and photo sharing websites, such as Facebook and Flickr, from within the Lightroom interface. With select sites, online comments to your images can also be displayed within the Lightroom library alongside your files.
Other Features. Soft proofing for printing applications. Direct email support. Customizable print packages. Flexible and versatile online publishing directly from Lightroom.
HTML or Flash web gallery output. One-click publishing to your website.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Cynthia from It's not viable any longer! Super disappointed now that I am into the meat of moving my photos. THIS DISC IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED AS OF APRIL, 2018 by Adobe. Imagine my surprise after I opened my package (making it no longer returnable), found a fairly out of date disc (required many additional uploads) and, even more outrageous, found out the raw images my camera takes are not recognized by this program requiring a ton of googling to find the patch.
Many of the features on their Cloud version are not on this version. Don't spend your money. My fault, I should have done a whole lot of research but was bamboozled by the Adobe name. Waste of time and money really. Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Nice Program I have a Traumatic Brain Injury. I've slowly learned digital editing on a cheap inferior program.
Some bought this for me as a gift, from B&H. I really like the layout and what I'm teaching myself about using Lightroom 6. The look one gets from using features, is professional and have an artistic pallet which I can adhere to my artistic styles in fine art photography. The learning curve will be harder for me, but I'm already having fun pushing myself through the learning. I am working on my 6x6 scanned transparencies (re-doing them after ditching the cheap program,) which the first couple look much better.
Digital RAW should be fun to work on next. Rated 2 out of 5 by Man with camera from Beware: No Dehazing on standalone version Even though this major version (6.1 at this point) was released just a couple of weeks ago, Adobe added new features to the 6.1 CC version but does not add it to this version because supposedly they're not allowed to due to some accounting reason. The real reason they do this is because they want you to rent Lightroom via the Creative Cloud and are creating a peasant class of users who buy their software. I realize this is probably listed in some fine print somewhere, but it's wrong and I will not be staying with Lightroom anymore. Fortunately there are alternatives. This is too far Adobe. Rated 1 out of 5 by Red from Do not buy this software!!!
Adobe seems to have screwed up a very good product with version 6, but don't take my word for it. Go to the Lightroom forum pages and you will find page after page of accounts of import problems. Adobe tech support is horrible as well, and I spent 2 1/2 hours with three people who didn't even know that their company had issued a patch to address LR6.2.1, but import problems are still very much with us. The SW sees images, but says they have already been imported, but you still cannot access them in the develop module. If you can't import photos, the SW is useless. Rated 1 out of 5 by michael d.
From Don't buy DVD if your mac is running on 10.10.5 or 10.8.5 I purchased lightroom 5 DVD from BH in the past and it installed with no problem. Lightroom 6 would not install on either my mac computers.
I contacted customer support (adobe and bh) on several occasions (email and phone) but they were not helpful. Bh kept telling me to contact adobe who was not solving the problem. Bh finally sent me a new DVD but that would not install. I called Bh on the phone and was not so nice on the phone.
They finally contacted adobe who contacted me with someone who could help me. The DVD never installed but I was able to download it.
Save yourself some headaches /hours of wasted time and buy the download version. I'm still not happy with all the hours I wasted but hopefully this can help someone else out. Rated 2 out of 5 by marcDC from Incomplete I have been using LR since LR4 and have regularly updated. What bothers me about LR6 is Adobe's ignorance of customer needs in the way it is trying to drive everyone to CC. I move around too much to rely on Web connections and want all my programs and pictures on my computer. To do that with LR6, one has to give up some of the new highly touted features that are only available in CC, for example, Dehaze. I wish there was an alternative user friend vendor.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Woody from woody Not much different than LR 5. HDR is ok but don't use it that much, Panorama ok but got other programs that do the same thing.face recognition is junk gets about 20% maybe. The worst thing is that the app only allows two installations. I do a lot of work in Nevada. I use two laptops 1 as a back up. I like to try to ruff edit that evening. In the studio.
I use a desk top to final edit.its just a pain to deactivate one computer and activate the other one. My thoughts are if u can still get LR 5 get it for that app does 98% of what LR6 will do with a lot less wasted time.
